GungHo’s Disney Pixel RPG closes on September 30
GungHo’s Disney Pixel RPG, a mobile-exclusive retro-style role-playing game, will shut down on September 30, 2026, less than three years after its 2024 launch. The development team announced the closure through the game’s official site and has been running free farewell events throughout the summer to provide players with a proper send-off. On the shutdown date, the game will be removed from app stores and all servers will go offline.
According to AppMagic estimates, Disney Pixel RPG achieved solid performance during its lifespan, accumulating nearly 1.5 million downloads and generating over $3.1 million in lifetime revenue. Despite this respectable showing for a mobile game, the revenue and engagement levels were apparently insufficient to justify continued operation.
GungHo is providing a refund window for unused in-game currency through January 13, 2027—more than three months after servers close—giving players an extended period to submit refund requests even after the game becomes unplayable. The closure exemplifies the challenges facing live-service games, which require sustained player engagement and monetization to remain economically viable, regardless of achieving millions of downloads.
