The Witcher Remake on Hold, Confirms CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher Remake, originally announced four years ago, has been placed on hold. Developed by Fool’s Theory and envisioned as an open-world reimagining of the original game, the project is being deprioritized due to competing demands within the company’s Witcher portfolio.

According to a statement from CD Projekt Red to GameSpot, progress on the remake is dependent on advancement of The Witcher 4’s development. With multiple projects underway, Fool’s Theory is currently focused on delivering The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a major expansion scheduled for 2027.

The pause reflects CD Projekt Red’s strategic prioritization of its near-term Witcher releases over the remake. While the company has confirmed an active pipeline of Witcher projects extending across several years, the remake’s timeline for resumption remains unclear and will likely depend on progress milestones reached during The Witcher 4’s development. No estimated return date has been provided.
