Me: You can now run DLSS 5 on AMD GPUs. My RX 9070 XT: Please stop, it hurts us

A new open-source application enables AMD Radeon GPU owners to run NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology on their hardware. The app leverages DLSS 5 DLL files extracted from an early access build of NBA 2K27, which modders have repurposed to create a compatibility layer that works across practically any game, extending far beyond the source material.

However, performance comes at a significant cost. Testing reveals that while the DLSS 5 Neural Rendering functionality operates on AMD hardware, the experience is substantially degraded, with poor frame rates and stability issues on Radeon GPU silicon. Despite the proof of concept being described as “surprisingly polished” in its implementation, the practical real-world usability remains severely limited due to the performance penalties imposed on AMD hardware.

This development represents community-driven reverse engineering and compatibility efforts to enable cross-platform functionality between NVIDIA’s proprietary AI upscaling technology and competing AMD hardware platforms. While the homebrew solution is technically noteworthy as a demonstration that DLSS 5 can theoretically run on non-NVIDIA hardware, the actual practical utility remains minimal given the severe performance impact, making it more of a curiosity than a viable solution for AMD GPU owners.
