Review: Switch 2 Elden Ring: PS4 Visuals, Improved Frame-Rate and Faster Loading Times
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition has launched on Switch 2 following a strategic delay from its originally planned late 2025 release. From Software postponed the launch to allow for performance adjustments, a decision that Digital Foundry confirms has proven “immensely beneficial” to the quality of the final release.
The Switch 2 version includes a comprehensive package featuring the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, additional starting classes, and exclusive cosmetic items for players and their mounts, contained within a 40GB install size. According to Digital Foundry’s technical review, the game delivers improved frame-rates and faster loading times, though visual quality benchmarks closer to PlayStation 4 standards than current-generation capabilities.
The release follows initial controversy surrounding pre-release code performance issues. The extended development period has resulted in what reviewers describe as a robust and optimized experience, demonstrating From Software’s commitment to successfully porting their demanding action RPG to Nintendo’s new hardware.
