EMEA Masters Summer Format Changed for New WSCI Event

Riot Games has announced format changes to EMEA Masters for Summer 2026 to accommodate the newly launched World Star Challengers Invitational (WSCI), a world championship for Tier 2 League of Legends teams. The decision was made after community concerns emerged regarding a scheduling conflict between the two tournaments.

The EMEA Masters (September 21-October 23) and WSCI (September 20-October 2) initially overlapped, creating logistical challenges for regional teams competing at the international event. To resolve this conflict, Riot adjusted the competitive format to ensure all EMEA teams, particularly WSCI qualifiers, can participate in both tournaments without compromise.

Under the revised structure, the three EMEA teams that qualify for WSCI will automatically gain entry to EMEA Masters Summer. The tournament will retain its 32-team Swiss Stage format, followed by a newly added separate Knockout Stage. This modification provides scheduling flexibility while maintaining competitive opportunities for the region.

The WSCI represents significant expansion of League of Legends esports infrastructure, offering Tier 2 teams an international stage previously unavailable at this level. By restructuring EMEA Masters to accommodate the new event, Riot demonstrates commitment to supporting multiple competitive tiers while managing scheduling constraints across its esports calendar.
