After AI slop accusations, Humankind 2 studio says its new trailer was definitely “made by humankind” and at least five chickens
Amplitude Studios has denied accusations that Humankind 2’s new Gamescom reveal trailer was created using artificial intelligence. The studio released a behind-the-scenes video to prove the trailer was made by human creators and practical effects, addressing widespread internet criticism that the footage appeared AI-generated.
According to Amplitude Studios, the reveal trailer combined “live-action filmmaking, practical sets, custom-made props, costumes, visual effects, and CGI to recreate thousands of years of history in just a few seconds.” The studio partnered with creative agency BETC to produce the trailer, demonstrating the human expertise and effort involved in its creation.
The denial comes amid growing skepticism within gaming communities about AI-generated content. By releasing behind-the-scenes documentation, Amplitude Studios sought to transparently show the traditional production methods used. In a humorous touch, the studio’s statement also credited “at least five chickens” as part of the production crew, adding levity to their defense while emphasizing the hands-on, practical nature of the work.
The incident highlights the current climate of suspicion around AI in gaming marketing, where audiences are increasingly questioning the authenticity of promotional materials and studios feel compelled to prove their content was made through conventional filmmaking and design techniques.
