Game of Thrones Stage Play The Mad King Is Coming to London in 2027

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s stage adaptation of Game of Thrones: The Mad King will transfer from Stratford-upon-Avon to London in 2027, author George R.R. Martin announced. The production, directed by Duncan Macmillan and Dominic Cooke, premiered in July 2026 and concluded its six-week run with sold-out performances before the transfer announcement.

Martin expressed enthusiasm for the initial production, posting on his blog that he had “a splendid time” at the Stratford premiere and was “thrilled” about bringing the production to London to reach a wider audience. The Mad King is a prequel stage play set in the Game of Thrones universe.

While the London transfer has been confirmed for 2027, critical details remain unannounced, including the specific venue and premiere date. Casting for the London production has also not yet been confirmed.

The stage adaptation marks another expansion of the Game of Thrones franchise beyond its original HBO television series and existing video game properties, demonstrating continued interest in bringing Martin’s world to live theatrical audiences.
