I’m Getting My Hopes Up for The Ascent 2 After the Developer Told Me It Had Big Franchise Plans

Neon Giant has confirmed it is developing The Ascent 2 and plans to expand the franchise into a larger series, according to creative director Arcade Berg. The original The Ascent, released in 2021, has accumulated over 12 million players and was deemed a critical and commercial success for the developer.

While Neon Giant is currently focused on No Law, a first-person cyberpunk-style game with immersive sim elements being published by parent company Krafton, the studio has long-term plans to return to The Ascent universe. Berg explained that after completing the first game, the team wanted to explore new creative directions before committing to a sequel, but remains enthusiastic about developing additional entries in the series.

The news comes from a gamescom interview and confirms longstanding speculation about a potential sequel. With 12 million players in the original title, The Ascent has proven sufficient audience appeal to justify franchise expansion.
