Next week, for the first time ever, Nintendo is hosting two Directs back-to-back - and the first one is dedicated to The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary

Nintendo has announced an unprecedented back-to-back pair of Direct presentations scheduled for next week. The first, a dedicated The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, will air on Tuesday, September 8 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM UK time, running for 30 minutes. This will be immediately followed by a general Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, September 9 at the same time slot, lasting 45 minutes. A 110-minute Nintendo Treehouse livestream will follow the general Direct for further gameplay demonstrations.

The Zelda-focused presentation marks Nintendo’s first time hosting two Directs consecutively and will deliver “a variety of The Legend of Zelda related information.” Fans anticipate this event will finally provide substantial details about the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2, which has been announced but remains largely mysterious. The showcase may also feature updates on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie expected to release in 2027. Recent leaks have revealed special-edition 40th anniversary Zelda Switch 2 console and controller designs, which could be formally announced during the presentation.

The announcement arrives near the end of 2026, following historical patterns suggesting Nintendo typically schedules Direct presentations during this period. The dual-Direct format represents an unusual strategy for Nintendo, signaling the company’s commitment to providing substantial news about both the Zelda franchise specifically and its broader software and hardware lineup.
