Petit Planet’s delightfully cosy galactic take on Animal Crossing is the closest we’ll ever get to the life sim on PC
Hoyoverse has created Petit Planet, a space-themed cosy life simulation game that draws heavy inspiration from Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series. Designed to appeal to the same audience that enjoys Animal Crossing, the game transposes the peaceful, relationship-building gameplay of the Nintendo franchise into a galactic setting.
At Gamescom, a 60-minute hands-on session revealed how closely Petit Planet mirrors Animal Crossing’s aesthetic and design philosophy. The game features similar visual elements, character animations, text box styling, and audio design cues that closely resemble Nintendo’s beloved title. Despite being set in space rather than a coastal village, nearly every design element—except the cosmic setting—echoes Animal Crossing’s distinctive charm and presentation style.
The game represents Hoyoverse’s strategic entry into the cosy life sim genre. While the exact gameplay mechanics remain largely undisclosed, the heavy stylistic parallels suggest Petit Planet will focus on similar core activities: building relationships, managing a personal space, and engaging in daily, peaceful activities. The game incorporates gacha mechanics, a standard element in Hoyoverse’s portfolio of games.
For PC players, this represents a rare opportunity to experience gameplay similar to Animal Crossing on desktop platforms, as Nintendo has maintained exclusive access to mainline Animal Crossing titles on their hardware. Petit Planet’s arrival could fill a notable gap in the PC gaming library, offering cosy life simulation experiences to players without access to Nintendo platforms.
