Amazon Just Canceled The Most Subversive Spider-Man Show Ever Made

Amazon has canceled Spider-Noir, a Marvel television series produced by Sony, after its first season on Prime Video. According to reporting from Deadline on September 4, the streaming platform provided no official explanation for the cancellation despite the show’s strong initial performance.

While Spider-Noir debuted successfully, it experienced a notably faster decline in viewership compared to other popular Prime Video series like Reacher, dropping out of the platform’s top 10 daily rankings more quickly than expected. This declining engagement appears to have contributed to the decision not to renew the show for a second season.

Despite canceling Spider-Noir, Amazon has signaled continued interest in Marvel television content based on characters within Sony’s Spider-Man adaptation rights. The platform remains open to developing additional series featuring Spider-Man universe characters, indicating that this cancellation does not represent a broader pullback from Sony Marvel projects.

However, not all planned Spider-Man spinoff series are moving forward. A television adaptation centered on the character Silk was scrapped, suggesting that Amazon is being more selective about which Spider-Man-related properties it greenlit for development.
