Gaming monitors are one of the only good things about PC hardware right now, but one niche feature is underloved

Gaming monitors represent one of the few bright spots in the current PC hardware market, offering exceptional value as memory and component costs surge across the industry. QD-OLED monitors, representing the cutting edge of display technology, are now available around $300, delivering impressive price-to-quality ratios that stand in sharp contrast to other PC components facing steep price inflation.

The gaming monitor market has experienced genuine improvements over recent years, making it one of the few hardware categories genuinely worth optimism. While other PC components struggle with supply chain issues and inflated pricing, monitor manufacturers have managed to keep their offerings competitive and feature-rich.

Despite these improvements, significant untapped potential remains in gaming monitor design and feature adoption. According to discussions with gaming monitor manufacturer AOC, current monitors haven’t fully explored or promoted certain niche capabilities that could significantly enhance the gaming experience. One notable example—the ability to double refresh rates with a few clicks—represents functionality that remains largely overlooked by both manufacturers and consumers. This gap suggests that while gaming monitors have successfully positioned themselves as exceptional value in an otherwise challenging hardware market, better education and promotion of advanced features could unlock further appeal to gaming audiences.
