‘Overwatch’ Won’t Get Its Most Exciting New Feature In Years Until Next Season
Overwatch’s long-anticipated Unvaulted battle passes feature will not arrive as initially planned during Season 4’s midcycle update, but has been pushed back to the start of Season 5. The delay was confirmed by Overwatch director Aaron Keller in a Sept. 4 blog post.
Unvaulted battle passes represent a significant addition to the hero shooter’s live-service model, allowing players to access and progress through previously released seasonal battle passes. The feature had been eagerly awaited by the community as a way to obtain cosmetics and rewards from past seasons they may have missed.
Keller attributed the delay to the need for additional quality assurance testing. “We’ve decided to push Unvaulting to the start of Season 5 to give our amazing QA team extra time to test it as thoroughly as possible,” he stated. “No one likes bugs, and we want to do everything we can to ensure this long-desired feature is as bug free as possible when finally available to you.”
The decision prioritizes launching the feature in a stable, polished state rather than rushing it out with potential issues. While the delay may disappoint players who were looking forward to the midcycle rollout, the focus on quality assurance aims to prevent the frustrations that accompany major features launching with bugs. The Unvaulted battle passes will now arrive alongside Season 5’s launch.
