Saber CCO says the studio isn’t changing up its comms strategy after recent controversies: ‘There’s always some dust up’

Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits has affirmed the studio will not alter its communications approach despite recent controversies. In an interview at Gamescom with PC Gamer, Willits acknowledged that Saber’s leadership has earned a reputation for being outspoken, admitting the studio sometimes “says what [it means] too much.”

When asked whether recent disputes would prompt a strategic shift, Willits declined. He characterized controversies as inevitable in the gaming industry, stating “there’s always some dust up.” He cited World War Z as an example, noting that criticism following the game’s Epic Games Store release—with detractors claiming Saber was “destroying the industry”—has been eclipsed by its success, with 30 million players having experienced the title.

Willits emphasized the studio’s core philosophy: “The games will speak for themselves.” This suggests Saber Interactive intends to let its releases and track record serve as responses to critics rather than adjusting its direct, transparent communication style.
