Official Backrooms 2 Announcement Reportedly Happening Soon, With Kane Parsons Returning
Backrooms 2 is reportedly in development with director Kane Parsons set to return, according to Dread Central. The horror media outlet indicates that an official studio announcement could arrive soon.
The original Backrooms originated from a viral image of a liminal space that inspired creator Kane Parsons to develop a YouTube web series. The series gained significant traction online, leading A24 to acquire the property and adapt it into a theatrical film directed by Parsons himself. The resulting movie became a major commercial success, grossing nearly $400 million globally—approximately 40 times its production budget.
Earlier this year in May, Parsons suggested in a Variety interview that the Backrooms franchise could continue beyond the first film, hinting at potential future installments. The reported signing of Parsons as director for the sequel indicates the studio’s clear intent to maintain creative continuity for the expanding franchise. With the first film’s commercial success demonstrating strong audience demand, a sequel appears poised to capitalize on the existing fanbase.
