Square Enix Wants Final Fantasy 7 to Keep Evolving
Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding chapter of its Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, will launch on April 8, 2027 across all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement came during a panel at PAX West 2026, where game director Naoki Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo showcased the game’s features and emphasized the developers’ vision for the trilogy’s conclusion.
The panel highlighted the new FITS combat system introduced in Revelation, alongside the inclusion of new playable characters including Cid and Vincent. The developers provided deep-dives into battle mechanics and story elements that differentiate Revelation from the previous games in the trilogy.
Notably, the development team expressed a strong desire for players to experience the game’s ending without spoilers or external explanations. A presentation slide stated: “We hope you experience the climax as something that’s not explained to you by someone else, but rather, as something that belongs to you.” This suggests the conclusion will feature significant narrative ambiguity that the developers want players to interpret independently.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy represents an ambitious reworking of the 1997 original, expanding the beloved classic into a modern multi-game narrative. With Revelation’s release date now confirmed, Square Enix is intensifying promotional efforts to build anticipation for the trilogy’s conclusion.
