‘There is absolutely no generative AI in Space Marine 3’ promises Saber Interactive executive
Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits has confirmed that Space Marine 3 will not use generative AI in its development. Speaking at Gamescom to IGN, Willits extended this assurance to several other upcoming Saber titles, including Hellraiser, Stuntman, Turok, Jurassic Park, and their John Wick game.
However, Saber Interactive is not abandoning generative AI entirely. The studio is actively experimenting with the technology, using Rideshare Stimulator as a testing ground to gauge both technical effectiveness and player reception. Willits acknowledged the recent Rideshare Stimulator controversy, suggesting that the studio will take a measured approach—implementing AI only if players respond positively to its application.
This public commitment represents an important distinction in the industry’s evolving relationship with generative AI. While major studios grapple with the technology’s potential and risks, Saber Interactive is positioning itself as cautious but open to experimentation. The company’s willingness to pull back if players reject AI-generated content suggests a more player-focused approach than some competitors.
The statement comes amid broader industry discussions about AI’s role in game development, including concerns about creative labor displacement and content quality. Saber’s phased approach—keeping major AAA titles AI-free while piloting the technology in smaller projects—may serve as a template for other studios navigating similar pressures and player sentiment.
