As the western games industry struggles, China’s games industry is booming, a new report shows

According to a new report from Niko Partners, China’s video games industry has generated $51.8 billion in revenue in 2025, underscoring a stark divergence between Asian and western gaming markets. The Chinese market’s size is more than five times larger than the UK’s $8.76 billion market, as reported by UKIE, the UK’s national video game association and trade body.

The report highlights the continued growth and expansion of China’s gaming sector despite ongoing struggles across western markets. This disparity represents a significant shift in the global gaming landscape, with Asia-Pacific regions increasingly dominating market share and establishing themselves as primary targets for major publishers and developers.

The data demonstrates that China has solidified its position as the world’s largest gaming market by revenue, driven by strong consumer spending on mobile gaming, console titles, and online multiplayer experiences. The $51.8 billion figure reflects the scale of China’s gaming audience and the substantial investment flowing into the regional games industry.

This trend underscores how economic and demographic factors, combined with differing market conditions, have created divergent fortunes for gaming industries across regions. While western studios and publishers face industry headwinds including layoffs and market consolidation, Chinese companies and international developers are increasingly prioritizing Asian markets to capture growth opportunities.
