Patrice Désilets vows to make a sequel to Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

Patrice Désilets, the legendary game director behind Assassin’s Creed and upcoming 1666: Amsterdam, has confirmed plans to develop a sequel to Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. Speaking at a 1666: Amsterdam event, Désilets revealed that the 2019 open-world survival game, which tasked players with guiding human evolution, was intentionally designed as “volume one” of a planned franchise expansion.

Clarifying his ownership of the intellectual property—an aspect he noted was “complex”—Désilets emphasized that he possesses the rights to create a sequel. When asked if he would pursue such a project, he unequivocally confirmed: “I will. I will. And people can believe me.”

The original Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, initially published by Take-Two’s now-defunct Private Division label, offered a unique gameplay experience centered on guiding early human development through an interactive narrative. Désilets’ commitment to continuing the franchise suggests a return to this distinctive concept with new evolutionary stages and gameplay elements.

The director’s comments mark a significant statement of intent for the franchise’s future. With Désilets currently focused on 1666: Amsterdam, details regarding the Ancestors sequel’s development timeline and scope remain unknown.
