PlayStation Reportedly Plotting New Killzone — but Is It a Remake or a Remaster?

A new Killzone project is reportedly in early development at Guerrilla Games with support from People Can Fly, marking a potential return for PlayStation’s iconic first-person shooter franchise after lying dormant since 2013’s Shadow Fall. The nature of the project remains unclear—reports suggest it could be either a remaster or remake, though the original 2004 PlayStation 2 title is most likely to receive the treatment.

Killzone was once PlayStation’s flagship FPS franchise in the 2000s, competing directly with Halo and Call of Duty before Guerrilla Games pivoted to the Horizon series following Horizon Zero Dawn’s 2017 success. Since then, the developer has remained focused on the Horizon franchise, which has become one of PlayStation’s major properties.

The timing appears significant, as Guerrilla Games is currently working on Horizon Hunters Gathering, a multiplayer spin-off in the Horizon universe. According to reports, the Killzone remaster was supposedly set to be Guerrilla’s next major focus before the Horizon game was rebooted following negative feedback, causing a shift in priorities. People Can Fly, known for Bulletstorm, Outriders, and co-developing Gears of War titles, has been brought in to assist with development.
