Persona 1 and 2 remakes are “something we’ll probably eventually do,” series producer says

Atlus series producer Kazuhisa Wada has reiterated that remakes or remasters of the original Persona and Persona 2 games are “something we’ll probably eventually do,” framing such projects as a form of cultural preservation.

Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Wada explained the philosophy behind remaking classic games: “For me, I think a remaster or remake is some kind of cultural preservation. As a creator, it’s your duty to take the things you’ve done and make sure they’re not lost, and are still around in the modern day.”

The comments come as Atlus continues to modernize its Persona franchise. Persona 3 Reload launched in 2024, while Persona 4 Revival is scheduled for February 2025. According to Wada, both remakes were initially conceived around the same time, though Persona 4’s development was delayed.

Persona, which debuted on the original PlayStation in 1996 as Persona Revelations, has seen previous re-releases, though not full remakes on the scale of the recent Persona 3 and 4 projects. Wada’s repeated mentions of potential Persona 1 and 2 remakes have led some observers to speculate that official announcements may be forthcoming, though Atlus has not confirmed when such projects might begin development.
