Here’s How Jace Tokens Work In Magic: The Gathering’s Reality Fracture Expansion
Magic: The Gathering’s Reality Fracture expansion concludes a three-year story arc, bringing the narrative of Jace Beleren—the longtime hero turned multiverse villain—to its climax. Set at Hexhaven, a 10,000-foot mage tower with shifting gravity, the expansion introduces five new schools of magic founded by elder sphinxes and debuts the Jace Token mechanic, a new token type focused on Planeswalker abilities that lead designer Mark Rosewater has been promoting since MagicCon Atlanta in September 2025.
During a press preview, Wizards of the Coast revealed 26 new cards from the set, including a powerful new Jace Planeswalker card and “Echoverse” variations of classic Magic characters such as Karn and Ghalta. These alternate versions appear to introduce new mechanical expressions of beloved cards tied to the expansion’s thematic elements.
Reality Fracture marks the final in-universe expansion of 2026, positioning the new Jace Token mechanic as the mechanical embodiment of the set’s narrative focus. The combination of story conclusion, innovative gameplay mechanics, and reimagined character variants signals a significant moment for both narrative-focused players and those engaged with competitive mechanics.
