Review: SteelSeries Aeon Pro: The Infinite Battery Life, Dual-System Xbox and PC Controller Impresses, Despite Its High Price
SteelSeries has entered the gaming controller market with the Aeon Pro, a premium wireless controller designed for both PC and Xbox at $260/£230. The Danish hardware manufacturer distinguishes the device through several innovative features borrowed from its successful Arctis Pro headset line.
The standout feature is a dual-battery system that provides effectively infinite battery life by allowing users to swap batteries while the controller remains in use—a mechanism that has proven popular in SteelSeries’ audio products. The controller also includes a dual-dock system with separate USB inputs for PC and Xbox, enabling seamless switching between platforms without requiring re-pairing.
Additional features include an integrated OLED screen for on-device customization and settings adjustment, remappable buttons, multiple stick options, and genre-based presets. The screen guides users through switching between Xbox, PC, or Bluetooth connectivity.
While reviewers acknowledge the ambitious feature set and innovative approach, the $260 price point positions it among the most expensive controllers on the market. This represents SteelSeries’ inaugural venture into the controller space, choosing to enter with a premium, feature-rich offering rather than establishing market presence through more accessible pricing.
