Nintendo Doesn’t Care About GTA 6
While the video game industry has largely coordinated to avoid November 2026 in fear of Grand Theft Auto 6, Nintendo is bucking the trend with a bold release strategy. The company has announced that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 will launch on November 5, just two weeks before Rockstar Games’ anticipated November 19 release of GTA 6.
Nintendo stands alone among major publishers in its willingness to compete directly with GTA 6. Throughout 2026, most of the industry has strategically avoided November, clustering releases in September and October or pushing titles into early December. Games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrived on October 23, while Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is scheduled for December. Nintendo appears uniquely confident in its franchise appeal, particularly given that GTA 6 is not expected to come to Switch 2.
The Ocarina of Time remake announcement came during a Nintendo showcase dedicated to the Legend of Zelda franchise’s 40th anniversary celebration. The presentation highlighted the upcoming Switch 2 release alongside other franchise announcements, including a live-action movie title reveal, orchestral concert series, and a special edition console variant.
Nintendo’s strategy reflects considerable confidence in the Ocarina of Time remake’s ability to attract its own audience independent of competing releases. The two-week gap between the Switch 2 exclusive and GTA 6’s multi-platform launch may prove significant in determining whether Nintendo successfully defends its November release from being overshadowed by Rockstar’s juggernaut.
