The Apothecary Diaries anime series is receiving a PC game spin-off coming in early 2027. The game will star Maomao, the franchise’s protagonist, a young female alchemist who works in the Forbidden Palace and serves as the palace’s unofficial forensic pathologist. Specializing in solving mysteries through her exceptional analytical abilities and extensive knowledge of poisons and pathology, Maomao uses these skills to unravel court intrigues and conspiracies within the imperial setting. The game maintains the mystery-solving gameplay style of the original anime, which has been compared to Sherlock Holmes-style detective fiction. Set in a world inspired by Tang Dynasty-era China, the game will feature Maomao investigating another court conspiracy, allowing players to experience new stories within the franchise and engage with her signature investigative work.
