Apple Announces Foldable iPhone Duo
Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, its long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone market, at the company’s “Surprise and Shine” event in September 2026. The device marks Apple’s first foldable offering and takes a different design approach compared to competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
The iPhone Duo maintains a consistent 1.4:1 aspect ratio in both its folded and unfolded states—a middle ground between the 4:3 (1.34:1) and 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratios. When folded, the device features a 5.4-inch display roughly the size of a passport, while the unfolded screen measures 7.6 inches. This uniform aspect ratio allows for a wider outer display, making the device more practical for mobile gaming and general use compared to other foldable designs.
The iPhone Duo will launch on October 23 with a starting price of $1,999 for the 256GB model. While the price places it in the premium foldable category, it represents Apple’s competitive positioning in this emerging market segment.
Alongside the iPhone Duo announcement, Apple also revealed the iPhone 18 Pro, described as primarily a specification bump from its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro. The announcement demonstrates Apple’s commitment to expanding its iPhone lineup with both innovative form factors and incremental hardware improvements.
