It turns out 58% of The Blood of Dawnwalker players have also played The Witcher 3, and roughly 40% of the entire playerbase is on Steam
New data from industry analysts at Alinea Analytics reveals substantial player overlap between two medieval fantasy RPGs. Nearly 58 percent of The Blood of Dawnwalker players have also played The Witcher 3, suggesting strong cross-appeal between the titles despite their different development histories.
The overlap is noteworthy given that Rebel Wolves, the studio behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, was founded by veteran developers and alumni from CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher 3. This shared pedigree appears reflected in the communities, with experienced RPG players readily embracing the newer title from the veteran development team.
Additionally, Steam accounts for approximately 40 percent of The Blood of Dawnwalker’s entire playerbase, indicating the PC platform’s significance to the game’s distribution, though suggesting considerable presence on other platforms as well.
Both games share thematic and mechanical similarities, including narratives centered around protagonists possessing supernatural abilities they did not seek in worlds that don’t necessarily welcome them. These design parallels, combined with the developer pedigree of Rebel Wolves, likely explain the substantial player crossover and suggest successful appeal to fans of narrative-driven fantasy RPGs.
