The Division 2’s New Echoes of Central Park DLC Isn’t Setup for The Division 3
Ubisoft’s The Division 2 is receiving a new DLC expansion titled Echoes of Central Park, returning the loot-shooter franchise to New York City for the second time. The DLC’s director has described it as the darkest story in the series’ history, following a decade-long legacy of bleak post-apocalyptic narratives.
Since its 2016 debut, The Division franchise has alternated between two iconic American settings: New York City and Washington, D.C. The original game depicted a catastrophic pandemic killing millions of people and triggering martial law and widespread violence. The Division 2 relocated players to Washington, D.C., before the series returned to NYC. Echoes of Central Park marks another chapter in the Big Apple.
Despite its dark narrative and story significance, Ubisoft has clarified that the DLC will not serve as setup or foreshadowing for The Division 3. The publisher is positioning Echoes of Central Park as a standalone story expansion rather than a bridge to future mainline entries. This suggests Ubisoft remains focused on supporting The Division 2’s live-service ecosystem with substantial content additions rather than immediately pivoting toward announcing its successor.
