FromSoftware patches Elden Ring to stop players sharing the Tarnished Edition Switch 2 extras for free
Elden Ring received a dedicated Tarnished Edition release on Nintendo Switch 2, launching alongside a DLC pack containing exclusive items also made available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The expanded availability quickly revealed a security vulnerability when players discovered an exploit allowing duplication of the DLC items, which could be used to share premium content with players who had not purchased the add-on.
FromSoftware deployed emergency patch 1.17.1 across all platforms on September 8th to address the multiplayer duplication issue. The update’s sole purpose was to plug the security hole that enabled unauthorized distribution of paid content, protecting the integrity of its DLC offerings in Elden Ring’s online ecosystem.
