Kirby and the World Beyond coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027

Nintendo announced a new Kirby game titled Kirby and the World Beyond at its September 2026 Nintendo Direct presentation, revealing it will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027.

The game represents the second full 3D platformer in the mainline Kirby series, following Kirby and the Forgotten Land from 2022. It features a vibrant, colorful aesthetic consistent with the franchise, showcasing Kirby exploring expansive open-world environments. The revealed trailer demonstrated gameplay including familiar copy abilities that grant Kirby new powers for both combat and traversal, as well as the iconic Sword Copy ability, where Kirby uses a blade to quickly ascend vertically and defeat enemies.

The game’s premise appears to center on a “world beyond,” with the trailer depicting Kirby breaking through barriers and venturing into unexplored territory. This concept suggests exploration of a world outside Kirby’s known realm, driving the adventure narrative. The open-world design allows players to freely explore substantial areas using Kirby’s various copy abilities to solve puzzles and overcome platforming challenges.

Kirby and the World Beyond marks a significant release for Nintendo Switch 2, arriving as part of the console’s launch window library. The announcement comes following the success of Kirby Air Riders, a racing spin-off released the previous year, indicating continued momentum for the franchise. With over a decade since the series’ first full 3D outing, fans of the platformer have been anticipating a return to the 3D adventure format, making this announcement a notable highlight of the Nintendo Direct event.
