Mario Kart World Free Update Is Out Today With All This New Stuff
Nintendo released a free update for Mario Kart World on September 9, 2026, introducing classic content from the original Super Mario Kart. The version 1.8.0 update adds 10 courses from the 1992 SNES title to the Switch 2 exclusive racing game, announced during Nintendo’s September 2026 Direct presentation.
The newly available courses include Choco Island, Vanilla Lake, Ghost Valley, and other classic tracks. A notable feature is the inclusion of retro-style item panels—the question mark blocks from the original game—replacing the modern floating item boxes found in Mario Kart World’s standard tracks. These classic courses are playable in the game’s VS Race mode.
In addition to the SNES track roster, the update introduces two new routes for Knockout Tour: Turnip Rally and Propeller Rally. Mario Kart World launched in June 2025 as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title, distinguishing itself from previous Mario Kart games by incorporating open-world exploration elements. This free update marks another content addition following the game’s initial release, providing players with nostalgic gameplay elements from the series’ origins.
