Metroid Ravenous announced, launches January 2027 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has officially announced Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D side-scrolling entry in the Metroid franchise, revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation. The game is confirmed to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, priced at $59.99 USD / £49.99 GBP for digital copies.

Metroid Ravenous serves as a direct sequel to the critically acclaimed Metroid Dread, continuing the series’ 2D side-scrolling gameplay formula. The announcement trailer depicts Samus Aran being attacked by mysterious enemies on a moon, forcing her into depths below. A key gameplay feature showcased in the trailer is Samus’s new energy-draining ability, allowing her to absorb energy from defeated enemies to survive—encapsulated by the game’s tagline “It’s eat or be eaten.”

The game blends 2D side-scrolling action with 3D graphics, featuring cinematic action sequences, enemy parrying mechanics, and Samus’s iconic Morph Ball form. The enemy roster includes fearsome creatures ranging from giant beings to futuristic, blade-wielding combatants that appear to present significant challenges throughout the adventure.

Additional release details include a confirmed file size of 20.2GB, though this specification may change before launch. Nintendo is also releasing accompanying amiibo figures and a special edition version of the game alongside the standard release. The game arrives less than two years after Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, demonstrating Nintendo’s commitment to sustaining momentum in the Metroid franchise across both 2D and 3D experiences on the Switch 2 platform.
