Monster Hunter Wilds is headed to the Switch 2 on later this year, comes with local co-operative play

Monster Hunter Wilds has been officially announced for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of December 4, 2026. The announcement was made during the September 2026 Nintendo Direct presentation.

The Switch 2 version will include all free DLC updates and new monsters released since the game’s initial launch. A notable feature of this port is the inclusion of local co-operative play, allowing up to four hunters to play together via local wireless connectivity. The game will also support full online cross-play functionality.

Additionally, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension, the first major expansion for the game, is in development and will introduce a new hunting region.

This Switch 2 release continues Capcom’s substantial support for Nintendo’s new console. The publisher is also bringing Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes to the platform. The Monster Hunter series has a history of strong Nintendo platform presence, with Monster Hunter Rise having originally launched as a Switch exclusive in 2021.

The December release date announcement came as a surprise to some, as Capcom had previously confirmed the game was coming to Switch 2 earlier in 2026 without providing a specific launch window, leading some to speculate it might not arrive until 2027.
