Activision has announced an unusual cosmetic variant for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 that changes appearance based on the player’s platform. The “Inner Circuit M4” blueprint is available as a preorder bonus across all platforms, but Xbox players receive an exclusive visual design celebrating Xbox’s 25th anniversary.
The Xbox version features a translucent green design inspired by the original Xbox console, complete with Xbox branding and “Xbox 25” markings on the magazine. Players on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows PC receive the same weapon blueprint with identical gameplay stats, but in a traditional mil-spec appearance.
Notably, the translucent Xbox design is visible only to Xbox players—those on other platforms see only the standard version, regardless of which platform’s preorder they purchased. This platform-exclusive visual treatment is described as unprecedented for Call of Duty. Both versions have identical functionality and stat values, making the distinction purely cosmetic.
The initiative represents Activision joining Microsoft’s efforts to celebrate Xbox’s milestone anniversary and reinvigorate console interest. By offering a universal preorder bonus while rewarding Xbox players with a visually distinct variant, Activision has created platform-exclusive cosmetic content without introducing gameplay imbalance. The translucent OG Xbox-inspired design appeals to players nostalgic for that gaming era.
