Everything announced in September 2026’s Nintendo Direct

Nintendo held its September 2026 Direct presentation on September 9, a 45-minute showcase focused on Switch 2 games launching in the coming months. Following a Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary event the previous day, the Direct featured a mix of new announcements, ports, and previously revealed titles across 57 games total.

Major announcements included Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D Metroid adventure arriving in January exclusively for Switch 2, featuring a novel mechanic where Samus “feeds” on enemies to gain new powers. Nintendo also revealed Kirby and the World Beyond, a new open-world 3D platformer launching in spring 2027 for Switch 2, which introduces cosmic-powered variants of Kirby’s traditional copy abilities.

Other highlights included Monster Hunter Wilds’ December 4 Switch 2 launch date (with local co-op and expansion content), confirmation of Persona 6 coming to Switch 2 (release date TBD), and ports of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion and Pikmin 4. The showcase heavily emphasized third-party releases and cross-platform ports.

Notably absent were announcements fans had anticipated, particularly a mainline 3D Mario game and a release date for FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods. Reception was mixed; while some praised the emerging 2027 lineup, the Direct was criticized as heavy on ports rather than first-party reveals. Observers noted an emerging trend: eating-focused mechanics across announced games, from Kirby’s copy abilities to Metroid Ravenous’s feeding system.
