No Man’s Sky 10th anniversary update is here, and that means orbital bases, space station ownership - and yes, you can finally fly to the sun
No Man’s Sky is receiving a major overhaul of its space system with the free “Cosmos” update released on the game’s 10th anniversary. Developer Hello Games chief Sean Murray has called it one of the “biggest and craziest” updates in the game’s history.
The Cosmos update fundamentally reimagines space travel and ownership. Players can now own and manage their own space stations, build orbital bases among the stars, and for the first time fly directly to the sun. The update also introduces player alliances, a new Star Map system, and massive space hubs that transform the previously empty void into a living environment.
According to Hello Games, space had remained largely unchanged since the game’s 2016 launch. The Cosmos update aims to make space feel “truly alive” and “more like home.” This represents another significant evolution for a game that has undergone remarkable transformation over a decade, having previously added features including gravity manipulation mechanics and Pokémon-inspired creature-catching systems.
The update is available free to all players across all platforms. It continues Hello Games’ trend of substantial, regular updates that have rehabilitated the game’s reputation from its infamous launch to become one of gaming’s most enduring exploration experiences.
