Onyx: The Dark Grip is a new Bloober Team horror game coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch 2

Bloober Team has announced Onyx: The Dark Grip, a new horror game coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The Polish developer, known for the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos: The New Dawn, unveiled the title during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation.

The game stands out as a handheld-only experience, unable to be played when the Switch 2 is docked to a television—a notable restriction given the console’s hybrid nature. The 2.5D horror adventure leverages touch screen and motion controls as core gameplay mechanics rather than optional features.

Onyx: The Dark Grip features a unique dual-protagonist system. Players control Holden, a traveler who becomes trapped in a fog-shrouded ghost town after being “beckoned by a voice.” Simultaneously, players command a mysterious Entity—a god-like figure following Holden—that can manipulate reality and the environment. The Entity uses its powers to move obstacles, realign reality, and help Holden progress through the desolate landscape.

The game’s reliance on handheld-exclusive mechanics demonstrates Bloober Team’s willingness to design specifically for the Switch 2’s capabilities and form factor. This approach contrasts with many Switch 2 titles that aim for multi-platform compatibility. While no specific release window within 2027 has been confirmed, the announcement marks another notable exclusive for Nintendo’s new hardware and represents Bloober Team’s continued expansion into new IP alongside their work on established horror franchises.
