After 9 Years, We’re Finally Getting More Of The Excellent Professor Layton

After a nearly 13-year absence from mainline entries, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will finally arrive on December 10, 2026. The puzzle-adventure title marks the franchise’s triumphant return with Professor Layton and his trusted assistant Luke, offering the first opportunity to play as the original protagonist since 2013. The last series installment arrived in 2017, though that was a spin-off centered on Layton’s daughter rather than the iconic detective himself.

Set during the dawn of the industrial age in the town of Steam Bison, the new adventure sees Layton and Luke investigating a mysterious phantom gunslinger terrorizing the community. The game emerged from years of delays and mounting fan skepticism about its release, but Level-5 has now delivered a confirmed date after multiple postponements.

The release will be notably expansive for the franchise, arriving on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, as well as marking the series’ historic debut on PlayStation 5. This multi-platform approach represents a significant expansion from the franchise’s traditional Nintendo exclusivity, bringing the beloved puzzle-solving gameplay to a broader audience than ever before.
