Callina Liang’s Stunt Double in the Street Fighter Movie Had to Wear Butt Pads to Match Chun-Li’s Physique
Street Fighter is being adapted into a live-action film by Legendary Pictures, with Callina Liang playing Chun-Li. Director Kitao Sakurai revealed behind-the-scenes details about the production during a media event Q&A, particularly regarding Liang’s intensive physical preparation for the role. To achieve Chun-Li’s iconic muscular physique, Liang underwent a rigorous training regimen focused on leg development, including extensive squat routines that resulted in her legs growing by 6.5 centimeters.
The commitment to authenticity extended to stunt work during filming. Liang’s stunt double was unable to match the actress’s dramatically increased muscle mass through training alone. To maintain visual consistency during action sequences, the stunt double wore specially designed butt pads to replicate Chun-Li’s enhanced glute development. This practical solution demonstrates the attention to detail required when bringing a recognizable video game character to the screen. Sakurai’s anecdote highlights both the dedication of the cast and the creative problem-solving necessary in adapting a character with such a distinctive and iconic physical appearance.
