‘VisionQuest’ Showrunner Reveals How His Mysterious Sci-Fi Series Connects to the MCU

Marvel Studios’ upcoming series VisionQuest will follow the android Vision’s journey of self-discovery following the events of WandaVision. The character, played by Paul Bettany, has endured significant turbulence throughout the MCU—being introduced in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he killed his creator Ultron, followed by his death in subsequent Avengers films. He was resurrected by his wife Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in the 2021 Disney+ series WandaVision, but experienced an identity crisis and vanished.

According to showrunner Terry Matalas, VisionQuest takes place several years after the events of WandaVision, positioning the story chronologically around the Spider-Man: Brand New Day timeline within the MCU. The series explores Vision’s philosophical quest to determine whether he possesses a soul, continuing his character arc from the previous series. Matalas confirmed the show will maintain connections to the broader MCU continuity while focusing on Vision’s personal journey and introspection. The series represents another expansion of Marvel’s Disney+ slate, following the success of WandaVision in bringing complex character narratives to streaming platforms.
