No more USB installation: Windows 11 Insiders now able to fully reset their system via cloud download even when the OS won’t boot
Windows 11 Insiders have gained access to a new system recovery feature called “Cloud rebuild” in the latest Beta Preview Build (version 26220.9343). This feature allows users to restore their Windows 11 PC to a clean state by downloading a fresh installation from the cloud, rather than requiring USB installation media or other offline recovery methods.
The key advantage of Cloud rebuild is its ability to restore the system even when Windows fails to boot normally. Traditional Windows recovery options have often been cumbersome and unreliable, requiring users to create separate installation media or navigate complex recovery processes. This new cloud-based approach aims to streamline the recovery process significantly.
For power users, system testers, and those who frequently troubleshoot or reset their systems, this feature addresses a long-standing pain point. Cloud rebuild provides a faster and more accessible way to restore Windows to a known good state without the hassle of external media or complicated manual recovery steps.
The feature is currently being tested with Windows Insiders in the Beta Preview program, suggesting it may eventually roll out to the general Windows 11 user base. This continues Microsoft’s efforts to modernize Windows administration and recovery capabilities through cloud-connected features.
