Gears of War: E-Day Might Provide XBOX’s First ‘Platinum’ Achievement
Gears of War: E-Day may become the first Xbox game to feature Microsoft’s newly announced Platinum achievement equivalent. According to Asha Sharma, Xbox is planning to launch a Platinum achievement system later this year, mirroring PlayStation’s long-established Platinum Trophy system, which is awarded when players unlock all other trophies in a game.
The revelation comes after the official Gears of War: E-Day achievement list was published on Xbox Wire. The list includes a special achievement called “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day,” which serves the same function as PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy—awarded to players who successfully earn every other achievement in the game. Unlike standard achievements, this special award grants zero Gamerscore, further mirroring the Platinum Trophy structure.
Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel in the long-running Gears of War franchise and ranks among Xbox’s significant releases planned for the remainder of 2026. If implemented as expected, this would mark a notable addition to Xbox’s achievement ecosystem, bringing the platform’s reward structure closer to parity with PlayStation’s trophy system. Platinum Trophies have been a hallmark of PlayStation gaming since the PlayStation 3 era, serving as a mark of completion and dedication for players achieving 100% in supported games.
For Xbox players, this would represent a long-awaited feature, potentially increasing engagement and providing a tangible completion goal similar to what PlayStation users have enjoyed for nearly two decades.
