GTA 6 Netflix preview drove more than 100,000 sign-ups during its six-hour exclusivity window

Rockstar Games’ exclusive preview of Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix proved to be a significant driver of new subscriptions. The 26-27 minute Extended Look, which aired with a six-hour exclusivity window on August 27, 2026, generated over 100,000 new sign-ups in the United States alone, according to analysis from Ampere Analysis.

This subscriber spike ranked as Netflix’s third-largest of 2026, surpassed only by the final season of Stranger Things and a Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano MMA fight. The preview resonated globally, accumulating over 31 million views and becoming the top-watched video in 87 of 93 countries.

Beyond attracting new subscribers, the GTA 6 Extended Look also successfully reactivated lapsed users. Ampere reported that over 5% of US Netflix members who hadn’t engaged with the platform in the previous 30 days returned specifically to watch the preview before consuming other content. The collaboration between Rockstar and Netflix demonstrated the potential for major game announcements to drive meaningful engagement and acquisition on streaming platforms.
