Saudi Wealth Fund Considering Merging EA and Savvy Games

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is reportedly considering a major strategic consolidation in the gaming industry—merging Electronic Arts with Savvy Games Group to create one of the world’s largest gaming conglomerates.

The proposal emerges just over a month after the PIF closed its $55 billion acquisition of Electronic Arts in August, taking the publisher private. According to Bloomberg, PIF executives are weighing plans to consolidate EA with Savvy Games Group, the investment and development holding company that already controls a sprawling portfolio of gaming assets.

The merger would significantly expand the combined entity’s reach across gaming verticals. Savvy Games Group currently owns Scopely (maker of Monopoly Go) and controls franchises like Pokémon Go, Monster Hunter Now, and Pikmin Bloom—assets acquired through its $3.5 billion purchase of Niantic’s games portfolio in 2025. This consolidation would be combined with EA’s marquee franchises, including EA FC, Madden, The Sims, and Apex Legends.

No final decisions have been made on the merger. Any potential consolidation would likely wait until Savvy completes its pending $6 billion acquisition of Chinese mobile gaming company Moonton, which was announced in March. The PIF also faces potential regulatory hurdles in executing such a large industry consolidation.
