‘Spider-Noir’ Creator Reveals Season 2 Plans After Prime Video Cancellation

Amazon Prime Video has cancelled the acclaimed Marvel series Spider-Noir after a single season, despite the show receiving a record-breaking haul of Emmy awards. The cancellation announcement came last week, followed days later by news that the series won five Emmy awards—the most wins ever achieved by a show terminated after just one season.

The eight-episode series premiered on Prime Video on May 27 to widespread critical acclaim but will not return for a second season. Series co-creator and showrunner Oren Uziel revealed in an interview with Variety what the show’s next chapter would have entailed. The second season would have followed Nicolas Cage’s character Ben Reilly as he embarked on a new investigative case set in a different location. Uziel highlighted the creative potential still unexplored within the noir genre, noting they could have developed additional stories set in Los Angeles, ventured into European noir narratives, or taken the character to entirely new settings.

The cancellation exemplifies a recurring industry challenge where critical and award-winning success does not guarantee renewal, particularly in the competitive streaming landscape where viewership metrics and production costs heavily influence greenlight decisions.
