Fallout 5 and Classic Fallout Remasters Coming from Bethesda and Obsidian
Bethesda Softworks is making a major push to expand the Fallout franchise, announcing multiple projects across different scales and timelines. The studio has confirmed that remasters of the beloved Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development for modern platforms, bringing these classic entries to contemporary hardware.
The remaster initiative is part of a broader reinvestment strategy that includes Fallout 5, currently in pre-production at Bethesda and described as the franchise’s “long-range destination.” Beyond the flagship sequel, Obsidian Entertainment is developing a new, unspecified Fallout project, continuing the studio’s partnership with the series following Fallout: New Vegas.
In the nearer term, Bethesda plans to release a substantial expansion for Fallout 76 called Raven Rock, scheduled for 2027. The expansion will serve as a prequel, expanding the game’s narrative universe.
The announcement, made in July as part of an extensive developer roadmap, represents a significant commitment from Xbox and Bethesda to revitalize the Fallout franchise after several years without major new releases. The remaster strategy aligns with current industry trends toward bringing older titles to new audiences while simultaneously working on new entries to maintain long-term franchise momentum.
