Modder adds 235 destructible Flock cameras to GTA 5 so you can ‘do whatever the flock you want’ to them

A Grand Theft Auto 5 modder has created a humorous commentary on real-world surveillance technology by adding 235 destructible Flock cameras to Los Santos. The mod, called GTALPR (Grand Theft Automated License Plate Reader), is a spoof of Flock’s automated license plate recognition software and allows players to destroy the cameras in any way they want—by shooting, smashing, or running them over with vehicles.

The mod isn’t just cosmetic; it’s fully functional. If players commit crimes in view of the cameras, their Wanted level increases, simulating how surveillance systems work in real life. The modder, WTTDOTM, added an extra layer of satire: there’s a 1 in 20 chance the cameras will randomly trigger a police chase for no reason, designed to represent Flock’s well-documented history of providing inaccurate reports.

Flock’s surveillance technology has become increasingly controversial in America, with many viewing it as invasive and unreliable. The mod taps into this growing frustration, using GTA 5’s destruction mechanics and dark humor as a vehicle for social commentary. The modder’s phrasing—“do whatever the flock you want”—encapsulates the mod’s appeal: allowing players to satisfy their urge for mayhem while commenting on surveillance overreach.

The GTALPR mod reflects how gaming communities use mods to explore real-world social issues through interactive storytelling. By making the cameras functional within the game’s systems, the modder created something that’s both entertaining and thought-provoking, blending GTA 5’s tradition of satirizing American culture with contemporary concerns about privacy and policing technology.
