Guide: Where To Pre-Order Metroid Ravenous For Switch 2, The Special Edition & amiibo

Nintendo announced Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D Metroid title exclusive to Switch 2, releasing January 28, 2027. The game continues Samus’ story following 2021’s Metroid Dread, introducing a new “eat or be eaten” gameplay mechanic where players devour enemies as part of the core experience.

Developer MercurySteam, the acclaimed studio behind Metroid Dread, is confirmed to be leading development on Ravenous, though Nintendo did not officially announce the partnership. The confirmation came indirectly when MercurySteam reposted the announcement trailer on LinkedIn and social media with cryptic emoji messages, essentially confirming their involvement.

The game was officially revealed during Nintendo’s recent Direct presentation, though the announcement had been partially leaked beforehand by Brazil’s game rating board. Pre-orders are now available, with a Special Edition option and accompanying amiibo figures accessible through various retailers including Very in the UK.

According to early impressions, Metroid Ravenous is shaping up to be one of Switch 2’s most stylish and exciting exclusives to date. While Nintendo’s week of announcements was dominated by The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, Metroid Ravenous has garnered significant excitement for its visual presentation and innovative gameplay direction, positioning it as a key title in Nintendo’s 2027 lineup.
