Pokémon Go ‘Mega Squads’ event guide

Pokémon Go’s “Mega Squads” event is now underway, running from September 8-14 and bringing new Pokémon encounters and Mega Evolution options to the mobile game. The event features the debut of Maschiff, a canine Pokémon, alongside the shiny version of Flamigo. Players can also encounter Mega Evolutions of Beedrill and Houndoom throughout the event period.

The event is structured in two distinct phases. The first phase ran from September 8 until September 11 at 10 a.m. local time, while the second phase began on September 11 and continues through the event’s conclusion on September 14. The split structure allows for changes to spawns, Field Research tasks, raid encounters, and egg pools between the two phases, keeping the event content fresh across its duration.

Two Spotlight Hours are scheduled during the event, providing limited-time bonuses and increased spawn rates for featured Pokémon. These Spotlight Hours are timed with the event rather than occurring on the usual Tuesday or Thursday slots, giving players specific windows to hunt for particular creatures and collect event bonuses.

The event includes various gameplay benefits and activities designed to encourage participation. Field Research tasks, raid encounters, and egg hatches rotate between event phases, ensuring players have different objectives and reward opportunities throughout the week. The inclusion of Mega Evolution forms for established Pokémon alongside new Pokédex additions aims to appeal to both veteran and newer players seeking new content and collection goals.
