Roblox games are escaping Roblox: Creators will soon be able to export standalone apps for PC, console, and mobile

Roblox announced a major expansion at its 12th annual Developers Conference (RDC 2026), introducing the “Roblox Everywhere” initiative. The update will allow creators to export their games as standalone applications, making them available on PC, mobile devices, and gaming consoles—expanding far beyond the Roblox platform itself.

This move represents a significant shift for the platform, which has grown into a global phenomenon. According to Matthew Ball, now chief strategy officer at Xbox, Roblox in 2025 generated more player engagement and revenue growth than Steam, PlayStation, and Fortnite combined. The platform reported 29 billion player hours in its most recent quarter, underscoring its massive user base.

The initiative is part of a broader set of updates announced at the conference, which also includes new development tools and additional monetization options for creators. These enhancements are designed to expand access to user-made games while giving developers more flexibility in how they distribute and monetize their work.

Despite the positive announcements, Roblox continues to face ongoing concerns regarding child safety on the platform. While the company introduced age-restricted accounts in June, these measures have not fully addressed safety concerns that have persisted in the U.S. and internationally.

The Roblox Everywhere initiative represents an ambitious expansion of the platform’s reach, allowing its thriving creator community to access audiences beyond the traditional Roblox ecosystem. By enabling standalone distribution, the company is positioning itself to compete more directly with traditional game distribution channels.
